We left him performing an excerpt from Les Indes galantes in the rain at the opening ceremony of the Paris 2024 Olympics, with his dual artistic credentials as both the beloved countertenor of Generation Z and an accomplished breakdancer. The Polish singer Jakub Józef Orliński is multiplying his artistic collaborations with constant success, as evidenced by his latest album Beyond (Warner Classics/Erato), considered by The Times to be one of the best classical albums of 2023, which will launch him on tours across the Atlantic this season.
But before that, the countertenor will come to enchant the GTG stage for a recital in which he will take us on a journey through arias by Handel, Schubert and Purcell, accompanied on the piano by his compatriot Michał Biel. This evening is a prelude to his appearance next May in Pergolesi’s eagerly awaited Stabat Mater, alongside the immense Barbara Hannigan.

JAKUB JÓZEF ORLIŃSKI
Countertenor
Graduating from the Julliard School in 2017, Polish countertenor Jakub Józef Orliński has rapidly become one of the most sought-after singers, triumphing both on stage, in concert and on disc. His first recording for Warner/Erato, Anima Sacra, won him the Opus Klassik Prize for solo vocal recording, while his second, Facce d’amore, won him the prize for recording (solo recital) of the year at the International Opera Awards 2021. His recitals across Europe and the United States are sold out, and his live filmed performance of Vivaldi’s ‘Vedrò con mio diletto’ at the Aix-en-Provence Festival has been viewed over eleven million times online. His third and fourth albums, Anima Aeterna in 2021 and Beyond in 2023, were accompanied by European and world tours with the ensemble Il Pomo d’Oro. On stage, he recently performed Athamas in Handel’s Sémélé in Munich (2023) and Licida in Vivaldi’s Olympiade at the Théâtre des Champs-Elysées (2024).
MICHAŁ BIEL
