To open the 24/25 season, three operas will return to the Opéra Bastille in September:
FALSTAFF
Giuseppe Verdi’s Falstaff will open the season, directed by Dominique Pitoiset and set in London at the beginning of the 20th century, from 10 to 30 September.
Under the baton of conductor Michael Schønwandt, Ambrogio Maestri will reprise the role of Sir John Falstaff, while Mrs Ford, Quickly and Page will be played by Olivia Boen, Marie-Nicole Lemieux and Marie-Andrée Bouchard-Lesieur respectively.
MADAME BUTTERFLY
Giacomo Puccini’s Madame Butterfly will then make its Paris debut from 14 September to 25 October in Bob Wilson’s legendary staging, under the musical direction of Speranza Scappucci.
The soprano Eleonora Buratto, who triumphs in the Puccinian repertoire on the greatest stages, will make her Paris Opera debut as Cio-Cio-San, followed by Elena Stikhina. Pinkerton will be played by Stefan Pop, Suzuki by Aude Extrémo and Sharpless by Christopher Maltman.
FAUST
Charles Gounod’s Faust, directed by Tobias Kratzer, will round off the month of September on the stage of the Opéra Bastille from 26 September to 18 October.
Conductor Emmanuel Villaume will lead Pene Pati and Amina Edris as the iconic Faust/Marguerite couple, accompanied by Alex Esposito and John Relyea as Méphistophélès, Florian Sempey as Valentin and Marina Viotti as Siebel.
