Tosca by Giacomo Puccini will be broadcast on Friday 31 May at 8 p.m. on operavision.eu, Opera Europa’s free streaming platform supported by the European Union’s Creative Europe programme, which was created with the aim of creating an international community of viewers from all over the world. The opera, with Italian and English subtitles, will be available on the platform until 1 December 2024.
A melodrama in three acts to a libretto by Luigi Illica and Giuseppe Giacosa, Tosca closed the 2024 Opera Season at the Teatro Regio di Parma in the much-loved staging designed by Joseph Franconi Lee, based on an idea by Alberto Fassini, with sets and costumes by William Orlandi and lighting by Andrea Borelli. The direction is entrusted to the baton of Daniel Oren, on the podium of the Arturo Toscanini Philharmonic, the Choir of the Teatro Regio di Parma, choirmaster Martino Faggiani, and the Children’s Choir of the Teatro Regio di Parma, choirmaster Massimo Fiocchi Malaspina.
On stage Maria José Siri (Floria Tosca), Luca Salsi (Scarpia), Fabio Sartori (Mario Cavaradossi), Luciano Leoni (Angelotti), Roberto Abbondanza (Sagrestano), Marcello Nardis (Spoletta, making his debut in Parma), Eugenio Maria Degiacomi (Sciarrone), Lucio Di Giovanni (a jailer), Sofia Bucaram (a shepherd).
