Ildebrando D’Arcangelo began his singing studies at the Conservatorio “Luisa d’Annunzio” in Pescara, under the guidance of Maria Vittoria Romano, and then specialised in Bologna under the direction of Paride Venturi. In 1989 and 1991, he won the Toti Dal Monte International Competition in Treviso and debuted there with the operas Così fan tutte (Don Alfonso) and Don Giovanni (Masetto). He has collaborated with the most important conductors: Peter Maag, Claudio Abbado, Riccardo Chailly, Myung-Whun Chung, Sir John Eliot Gardiner, Daniele Gatti, Valery Gergiev, Bernard Haitink, Nikolaus Harnoncourt, Christopher Hogwood, Riccardo Muti, Seiji Ozawa, Antonio Pappano, Michele Mariotti, Sir Georg Solti, Gianandrea Gavazzeni, Gustavo Dudamel, Gary Bertini, Evelino Pido’, Donato Renzetti, James Levine, Yannick Nézet-Séguin, Tugan Sokhiev, Sir Simon Rattle. The most important opera directors have directed him: Roberto De Simone, Daniele Abbado, Mario Martone, Peter Mussbach, Pier Luigi Pizzi, Luca Ronconi, Carlos Saura, and Franco Zeffirelli. He has appeared in the world’s major theatrical institutions: the Lyric Opera in Chicago, the Royal Opera House Covent Garden in London, the Teatro alla Scala in Milan, the Metropolitan Opera in New York, the Paris Opera, the Teatro dell’Opera in Rome, the Teatro Comunale (Bologna), the Teatro di San Carlo (Naples), the Salzburg Festival, the Staatsoper in Vienna, Tokyo Yokohama, Osaka, N.H.T. Ildebrando D’Arcangelo has released solo albums of arias by Händel and Mozart on the Deutsche Grammophon label and has participated in numerous recordings of complete operas.
