Born and raised in Ukraine, Yurii Strakhov was immersed in music from an early age, being part of a family of professional musicians. His musical upbringing laid the foundation for his pursuit of opera, which he has continued to develop through rigorous academic training and performance experiences in leading institutions and opera houses. Mr. Strakhov graduated in 2020 from the National Music Academy of Ukraine in Kyiv, where he received formal training in opera singing. He further honed his vocal technique and stage presence at the Swiss Opera Studio, part of the Bern University of the Arts. Currently, he is continuing his studies at the prestigious Accademia del Maggio Musicale Fiorentino in Florence, Italy, where he refines his craft and broadens his operatic repertoire. Throughout his career, Mr. Strakhov has been an active participant in numerous international competitions, consistently achieving top placements. In 2022, he was awarded first prize at the AsLiCo International Competition in Como, Italy, and third prize at the Salice d'Oro competition in Vienna, Austria. He also received the Fondazione Piero Cappuccilli Special Prize at the Città di Alessandria competition. Mr. Strakhov's accolades extend to further international recognition, having earned distinctions at competitions such as Ionel Perlea in Romania, Wassyl Slipak in Ukraine, and Lirica Sul Tevere in Italy, among others. He has performed a broad range of operatic roles across Europe, showcasing his versatility and deep commitment to his craft. Notable roles include Dandini in La Cenerentola (Gioachino Rossini), Papageno in Die Zauberflöte(W.A. Mozart), Malatesta in Don Pasquale (Gaetano Donizetti), and Don Giovanni in Don Giovanni (W.A. Mozart). In 2024, he will perform Marco in Gianni Schicchi (Giacomo Puccini) and Barone Douphol in La Traviata (Giuseppe Verdi). Throughout his career, Mr. Strakhov has worked with esteemed conductors such as Francesco Lanzillotta, Renato Palumbo, and Daniele Gatti, and collaborated with renowned stage directors including Stefania Grazioli and Denis Krief. His participation in the Europa InCanto festival in Italy, an initiative aimed at introducing opera to new and younger audiences, further underscores his commitment to the cultural enrichment of future generations.
